Finish Dishwasher Cleaner Review

Our dishwasher gets a good workout daily. With dishes from 3 meals times 8 people to take care of, it is running a lot. I depend on it to take care of the messy dishes I don't have time to wash by hand. But even a dishwasher needs to be cleaned occasionally. Finish makes a 8.45 oz. bottle of dishwasher cleaner that is designed to tackle limescale, grease, and smells that may be in your dishwasher.

Finish Dishwasher Cleaner Review in Depth

I have to admit that most loads of dishes are started by one of my children. It's a simple, yet endless task that is easy to delegate to one of the teens. So it was actually my daughter that mentioned to me that the inside of the dishwasher was looking a little dingy and stained.

The next time we went grocery shopping she helped pick out a dishwasher cleaner to try.

When we got back home we looked at the minimal packaging to figure out how to work the new dishwasher cleaner. The directions told us to remove a sticker from the top of the bottle. Under the sticker was a circle in the top of the lid covered with hardened wax. Following the directions we placed the bottle lid side down in the cutlery basket and started an empty wash cycle on the hottest setting. When the wash cycle was over we opened the door to the dishwasher to discover that the bottle was now empty and the dishwasher was cleaner.

The inside of the dishwasher was actually perfectly clean. The sides of the dishwasher looked as clean and bright as the first day we installed it. The bottom gleamed surprising me at how white it had once been and was again. The inside of the door was a different story. There were some streaks of grease and limescale buildup that had been loosened but not quite rinsed away.

I was a little disappointed by this, but I think the door would have benefited from a second bottle. It's possible that I had neglected cleaning it too long, a major dishwasher mistake.

The product was simple to use. I read reviews online by a few other users that mentioned the wax had failed to melt when they used the product. This didn't happen in our tests. There was no hint of wax left on the lid at all. The liquid completely came out of the bottle. It really couldn't have been easier to use.

Finish Dishwasher Cleaner: Pros

Finish's Dishwasher Cleaner is effortless to use. It works really well on most areas of the dishwasher. The scent that comes out of the dishwasher after using it is fresh and clean with a hint of citrus. Adding a dishwasher cleaner to your cleaning routine actually makes the dishwasher better at washing your dishes. To get the best results use this product monthly in an empty dishwasher on the hottest settings.

Finish Dishwasher Cleaner: Cons

The expense is a major bummer to me. Even though it works well, the retail price is around 7.00 for a bottle. This will keep your dishwasher clean for about a month and is in addition to the regular dishwasher detergent you will still need to buy . Another major con was that while the cleaner did a great job on the interior of the dishwasher it didn't fare as well on the interior of the door. There was a lot of grease and limescale left on the door even though it was loosened. I was able to wipe away quite a bit of it, but it would have been so much nicer if it had dissolved and been rinsed away.
